Beautification Commission Overview
The Northville Beautification Commission was
established by city ordinance on February 20, 1967. Its purpose is to preserve and enhance the beauty of the City of Northville through
public education programs, recognition of outstanding private and public beautification efforts, and through study, recommendation and
implementation of planting programs in public spaces.
Membership in the Beautification Commission consists of 9 to 18 members, appointed by the Mayor, with approval of City Council.
Meetings are held once monthly with the exception of July and August.
Beautification Council of Southeastern Michigan
On November 22, 1963, representatives from cities throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties formed "a regional
Clean-up/Beautification Committee," the first meeting of what is now known as the Beautification Council of Southeastern Michigan.

Harrison Township, Hazel Park, Lathrup Village, Livonia, Mount Clemens, New Baltimore, Northville, Oak Park, Riverview, Royal Oak,

Membership in BCSEM entitles representatives of your community to attend quarterly meetings where members share successful projects,
and guest speakers present information about a wide range of topics.
Members
Speak
Linda Lestock: I was invited to attend a meeting and replied, "I just don’t have the time." But, for eight summers now, I have
enjoyed making a visible difference and putting "Northville in a garden"!
Josie Rewald: I just wanted to do my part to keep Northville the beautiful city that it is.
Rosemary Tague: I love Northville, love flowers, and the people I’ve met on the Beautification Commission. When we plant just one
flower we see the smiles. It’s truly rewarding.
