Photo Album - City of
Northville 50th Anniversary
On Saturday, August 27th Northville celebrated 50 years
since it was incorporated as a city. After a dismal rainy
morning the sun came out in time for the 2:00pm start of what turned
out to be a fantastic party. People were immediately directed to the
parking lot across from the post office to make history in forming a
human 5-0. The moment was captured on film by Steve Fecht of
Steve Fecht Photography. After brief introductions were made
the afternoon progressed with music by Steve King and the Diddlies.
Cake and ice cream were served to approximately 800 residents and
friends of the City of Northville and children enjoyed face painting
and a variety of games. Mother Nature interrupted the party at
about 4:30pm with another downpour; but all in all it was a great
afternoon.
Northville's 50th Anniversary celebration came to a close with
the final City Council meeting of 2005 on December 19th. This
regularly scheduled meeting fell exactly 50 years to the day of the
very first City Council meeting in 1955. The Northville
Community Senior Center hosted the event with brief comments by
Mayor Christopher Johnson, 50th Anniversary Chair Michele Fecht and
dignitaries. Resolutions of acknowledgement of the historical
milestone were presented by State Representative John C. Stewart,
U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter; State Senator Nancy Cassis,
Wayne County Commissioner Laura Cox and Northville Township
Supervisor Mark Abbo. Cake and coffee were served to those
that attended including former mayor Mike Allen and officials from
Northville Township and the Northville Board of Education.
