Seasonal Park Maintenance

Northville Parks and Recreation is recruiting for the following position: Seasonal Park Maintenance
Seasonal, Hourly, Part-time position, up to 40 hrs/week. Annual hours will not exceed 1,560. Weekend shifts required.

REPORTS TO: Parks and Facilities Supervisor

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Parks and Facilities Supervisor, performs a variety of routine and skilled maintenance, activity set-up/preparation, and custodial duties in support of park and recreation buildings and grounds. Typical maintenance, repair, set-up, and cleaning duties include work in park restrooms, pavilions, ball fields, playgrounds, and landscape areas. Operates trucks, utility vehicles, and other equipment and tools.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
A High School Diploma or GED; or any combination of experience and training which meet the minimum qualifications. Must possess a current, valid Michigan driver’s license with a driving history that does not create liability concerns.

EXPERIENCE: Grounds, facility maintenance, or custodial experience is preferred.

SKILLS: Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and ability to perform the physical requirements of trash removal, equipment operation, and park maintenance duties.

COMPENSATION: Starting range: $10.50 - $11.50/hour, D.O.Q.

Building Attendant

Northville Parks and Recreation is recruiting for the following position: Building Attendant
Year round, Hourly, Part-time position, avg. 16-28 hrs/week. Annual hours will not exceed 1,560. Weekend and evening shifts required.

REPORTS TO: Parks and Facilities Supervisor

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Parks and Facilities Supervisor, oversees recreation programs/events, open activities, and rental groups. Collects fees, provides customer service assistance, sets up equipment for activities and events, and performs general cleaning duties.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
A High School Diploma or GED; or any combination of experience and training that meets the minimum qualifications.

EXPERIENCE: Work experience with cash handling and/or customer service is preferred. Facility set-up or facility supervision experience is desirable.

SKILLS: Cash handling skills, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and ability to perform the physical requirements of equipment set-up. Strong communication skills, ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public and with department team members. Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.

COMPENSATION: Starting range: $11.00 - $12.00/hour, depending on qualifications.

Seasonal Gardener / General Maintenance

Northville Housing Commission is accepting applications for Seasonal Gardener/General Maintenance Worker for Allen Terrace senior citizen apartment community. Employees in this position provide outside grounds maintenance and minor interior maintenance and cleaning. (Note: A separate lawn service handles lawn care and fertilization).

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to perform basic maintenance/gardening duties. Average work week schedule would be up to 25 hours per week, typically from 8 a.m. - noon, April/May through September. Starting wage is $10 per hour. There are no fringe benefits with this position.

Park/Building Attendant – Northville Parks and Recreation

Northville Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Park/ Building Attendant position – week day/weekend and evening shifts. Employees in this position provide supervision and maintenance services for the Northville Parks & Recreation facilities.

Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, excellent customer service skills, and be able to perform basic maintenance duties. Average work week schedule would be 10 – 29 hours per week, with schedules changing monthly based on park /building usage.

Starting wage is $10 per hour. There are no fringe benefits with this position.

Substitute School Crossing Guard

The City of Northville is accepting applications for a substitute adult school crossing guard position. This position is responsible for safely crossing elementary and middle school children at designated crosswalks before and after school. Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and requires the individual to be in good physical condition with good mobility. This position is overseen by the Northville Police Department.

Crossing Guard Responsibilities

  • Stop vehicle and pedestrian traffic and escort school children across designated school crossing zones in all weather conditions.
  • Ensure the safety of children.
  • Effectively communicate with children, parents, and the general public.
  • Report violations of school crossing guard laws and appear in court for those violations.
  • Report unsafe traffic conditions in school crossing zones and suspicious vehicles or persons around the school area.
  • Communicates safety instructions and directions to students, parents, and motorists traveling through the school safety zone.

  • Dependable
  • Pass a pre-employment background investigation

The City of Northville Police Department will provide all training and equipment required by law to the crossing guard. Crossing times are mornings 7:30am – 8:50am, 2:55pm – 4:00pm, and an occasional late morning/early afternoon on early release days.

Pay is $11.12 per crossing with each crossing guard typically covering 4.5 crossings per day. Benefits are limited to those required by law (social security and workers’ compensation). This is a substitute position that will fill-in during absences of the regular crossing guards.

Northville Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Seasonal Park Worker, Monday – Friday 7am – 3pm. Employees in this position provide maintenance services for the Northville Parks & Recreation parks and facilities. Position runs from March 21st through November 11th. This is a seasonal position.

Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to perform basic maintenance duties. Average work week schedule would be up to 40 hours per week, with occasional flex scheduling depending on work load.

Starting wage is $10 per hour depending on experience. There are no fringe benefits with this position.
